It is actually a leading brand in the United Kingdom and is used to refer clear adhesive tape. Cello tape is an example of a genericized trademark. It has a long history dating back to 1937. As it was much stronger than the paper tape used earlier, it became very popular. It is used for many purposes like sticking two pieces of paper, attaching two cardboards together, and sealing boxes.
